A lot of unique pets.... Very small building with A lot of stuff... Doesn't smell to good but that's yo be expected with all the animal's...
Got a fish, the man dropped it on the ground and said "so do you still want it or not?" Then on our way home realized the fish had 1 eye! Called about frogs, the next day we went to buy them at 12:30 on Friday (open at 11) and no one is there! They were closed!
This place has always looked horrible since I've lived in this area. Any time I visit is because I feel like maybe I can save an animal. Your told you cannot touch any of the animals, including the ferrets, rabbit's, etc... The birds are missing feathers likely cause of stress, exotic snakes are crammed into way too small of tanks, and many of the reptiles are literally in storage containers and stacked on top of one another along the back of the store. The smell of the place will knock you back when you walk in. I absolutely cannot comprehend how they are still in business.
I am not sure where people are getting the false idea that the animals are not taken care of, but the owner of the store does his best to take care of the animals he has. The shop is small; therefore, making the smell stronger. Animals smell bad and there is no way to avoid the stench of animals when owning a pet shop in a small building. Large chain stores do not smell because there is more room for the stench to travel and spread out. The pets are taken care of. Yes, from time to time you may come in and the cage hasn’t been cleaned yet that day, but imagine running a pet shop AND cleaning all of the animals cages while trying to communicate information to customers while being there alone? He is doing the best he can, and I don’t wish this treatment upon anyone! There are lots of animals; therefore, a lot of cages, AND a lot of work. Also, regarding the “small” containers for the snakes, snakes do not need large cages they feel safest when they’re in a dark area hidden. Mass breeders of snakes put all of their snakes in these rack system containers, and the same Mass breeders that provide animals for the Chain stores store their animals in rack systems as well. Rack systems are not “cruel” or unheard of in the animal world. I hate that anyone would try and call him cruel over the rack system, because this is a well known and widely practiced way of keeping snakes. I won’t ever be able to comprehend why people are so quick to judge based on the what they see on the outside. Yes, there is lots of stuff, but where else is he supposed to keep the items people randomly give him? I wouldn’t ever even have a second thought about purchasing any animals from him, because I know they’re much better taken care of and higher quality than the animals at chain stores!!! Please stop trying to convict the shop of cruelty before learning about the ideal condtions for animals. I wish nothing bad upon this shop! The owner is knowledgeable, and he is willing to help you with your animals. He knows much more than your typical vet about more exotic creatures than your cats and dogs.
My son wanted a snake and we set out and researched many places to buy my little one a ball python. So we found ourselves here at village pets. I can honestly say they man that runs the store is very friendly he answered all out questions on how to care for our new ball python witch we named Zelda .. Once we got the snake home and she had she first shed she didn't seem to want to eat I researched and this is common in baby's so I called village pets and he gladly offered to help us assist feed her free of charge .. The space is tight yes but he cares for these animals just as any other pet store would ...
